In conditions of greater attention to the development of opera art in China and constant reforms and innovations of the vocal courses at musical universities, opera rehearsals at higher art colleges and universities have become common practice. The opera education courses and the process of opera rehearsals at Chinese musical universities
are taken as the main subject of the research presented in this paper. Through the analysis of opera productions at the Conservatory of the Shanxi Normal University and the Guangxi-Zhuang Institute of Arts the author shows the importance of promoting opera at the musical university. In addition, by making the comparative analysis of educational
courses in the Chinese universities and the Opera Studio of the Ural State M. P. Mussorgsky Conservatoire, the author revealed differences and similarities in the educational ideas and approaches used in higher art schools of the two countries.
