The article is devoted to one of the most important problems of musical theatre in China — adaptation of the European manner of singing under conditions of the domination of the traditional vocalism. The complexity of solving the problem is revealed on the basis of the comparative analysis of aesthetic criteria of the approach to vocal sound and methods of sound production, depending on phonetic peculiarities, and articulation of the national language.
