This article explores the phenomenon of “echo” as an artistic device
used in the works of the West-European baroque masters (J. Kuhnau,
J. Stanley, A. Raison, J. P. Sweelinck, N. Lebègue, J. S. Bach). The author
reveals the etymological roots of the term “echo”, the semantic field of
the phenomenon and describes the artistic ways of its implementation in
the music of the 17th — mid 18th century.
