The author examines the role of Giselle performed by Galina Mezentseva, an outstanding Russian ballet-dancer of the 20th century. For the fi rst time, Mezentseva’s Giselle is being analyzed within the context of St.-Petersburg tradition of ballet productions and compared with the roles created by G. Ulanova,
N. Makarova and G. Komleva.
Keywords: Ballet, G. Mezentseva, K. Zaklinsky, Giselle, A. Adam, J. Coralli,
J. Perrot, St.-Petersburg tradition.
