From the History of Baroque Patronage: Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni and his Cultural Institutions

The article reviews cultural institutions established and spearheaded by cardinal Pietro Ottobonni (1667–1740), a distinguished patron of art and music of the time. Those
cultural institutions had a considerable impact on musical and theatrical life of Rome in late 17th and the fi rst half of the 18th centuries. Thearte Tordinona, Academy of Arcadia and Theatre at the Palazzo della Cancelleria refl ected Ottoboni’s views on the way artistic and cultural life should be organized and at the same time they have become the quintessence of the spirit of the Roman baroque.
