The creation of the industry of sacred goods is a characteristic feature of modern Russian paganism that emerged in the second half of the 1970s. The relevance of the research is due to the absence of works in the domestic and foreign scientific environment, studying the “material side” of Russian paganism of the 20th–21st centuries. The article is devoted to the tradition of modern pagan talismans (amulets). Using the data obtained through a survey, the authors dwell on the characteristics of a pagan talisman: presence / absence of a talisman among the respondents, number of amulets, their type and material. Attention is paid to the variability of acquisition of amulets and reasons that prompted neophytes and adepts of this worldview phenomenon to use “material protection”. As a result of the research, the authors came to the following conclusions. Firstly, the overwhelming majority of participants in Kupala 2017 are owners of amulets and prefer using one sacred symbol. Secondly, the majority of respondents chose an ornament (sign and symbol) as their amulet. Thirdly, purchasing of amulets at a festival looks natural. This choice is explained by the fact that the pagan “holy” (holiday) gathers a large number of neophytes going through the rituals of “naming” and approving their new status, in particular by means of acquiring appropriate attributes.
