In April 1951, after the opening of the «Exhibition of Soviet posters and caricatures», various exhibitions of the Soviet Union started arriving and exhibiting their works in China, with extensive coverage of these events in the mass media of China. As the relations between China and the Soviet Union developed, cultural ties and exchanges
between the two countries expanded accordingly. In the 1950s the infl uence of the Soviet art on the Chinese painting and artistic life was comprehensive and profound, and, obviously, this infl uence impacted Shanghai as well.
