The meaning of totality in the works of Kojève and Hegel is specified in the paper. The
“concrete reality” and the “idea of totality” are defined. The necessity of preservation
of the anthropological dimension in consideration of this problem is proved. The author
provides a new definition of totality, comparing the categories of the total, concrete and
lordship. This definition demonstrates constant evident significance for each individual.
Key words: lordship, desire, Kojève, concrete, totality, human.
