Qin Shihuang’s “Terracotta Army” Production Techniques As A Special Art Process

Li Ciao Chun
Price: 50 руб.
The combination of painting and sculpture is one of the most important traditions of ancient Chinese sculpture. Terracotta figures originally were completely coated with paint, but after the fire started by Xiang Yu’s army at the end of Qin dynasty, the paint remained only on a few of the terracotta soldiers and horses’figures. In recent years six figures with almost completely intact colors have been found. These figures give
an idea of the original look of the terracotta army. The figures which have lost their paint layer look simple, laconic, and even a bit scholastic. Figures of soldiers with preserved colors project the atmosphere of enthusiasm, vital energy, so the army looks menacing and impressive.
Keywords: the terracotta army, Qin Shihuan, Funerary sculpture, ancient China,
