The article reviews the history of performances of Mendelssohn’s piano concertos, from the past to the modern times. The characteristics of the composer’s style in concerto genre are also analyzed. The author presents the comparative analysis of interpretations of the First concerto for piano and orchestra as performed by modern pianists, namely, by D. Bashkirov, E .Leonskaya, M. Peraya, and M. Pletnev.
Some conclusions on the reinterpretation of the composer’s music in piano performing art are also provided.
