Enthronement of Artaxerxes I: An Attempt to Reconstruct Events in the Period of 46-464 B.C. in the Achaemenid Empire

V. P. Orlov
Price: 50 руб.
The article explores the circumstances of the reign of Artaxerxes I in the Achaemenid Empire. This issue has not received much attention in the modern Russian and foreign historiography. Based on a wide range of sources, the author concludes that the accession of Artaxerxes I was accompanied by serious political struggle, in which
Megabyzus, a representative of the satrap power, played a decisive role. The author provides evidence that the Artaxerxes I was interested in the plot against his father, Xerxes I, and could have been actively involved in it.
Keywords: Artaxerxes I, Achaemenids, Artabanus, Megabyzus, palace coups, the satraps.
