What a Likable World, Or Why the Biology of Cognition Is So Appealing to a Linguist

 The article raises the issue of the nature and causes of the emergence of de fi cient assertion markers in contemporary Russian and English. It is hypothesized that changes in the domain of linguistic interactions affect humans cognitive development in ontogeny; a tentative approach to the analysis of ongoing linguistic change is suggested, based on the biology of cognition as a theory of living systems.
