The article reveals the importance of forming the will component of psychological
readiness for school among 6–7-year-old children, which is defi ned as a required and
suffi cient level of formation of the arbitrariness of conduct, self-regulation and elements
of learning activity. The results of monitoring of the state of the educational environment
and psychological health of pupils at school preparation groups showed that the will
readiness for school among older preschoolers is not formed or insuffi ciently formed.
Such a conclusion determined the necessity of organising psychological and educational
work on the formation of this component of psychological readiness for school, because
this will help future fi rst-form pupils to overcome impulsivity in their behaviour, teach
them to control themselves and obey the rules, which greatly facilitates the process of
adaptation to school.
