The aim of the study was to compare characteristics of parents and children from adoptive families of varying degrees of confl ict. 15 adoptive families took part in the survey: 13 parents and 20 adolescents (mean age of 14.2±2.3 years). All testees were divided into three groups: families that had decided to abandon the child (6 families); families with confl ict relations between parents and children (6 families); families in which parents coped with their responsibilities without signifi cant confl ict situations (8 families). It turned out that the probability of child abandonment by an adoptive family increases if
the child got to an orphan home before the age of a year and a half and he/she has low
emotional intelligence, and adoptive mother has high sensory sensitivity and dynamics.
