EMOTIONAL STATUS OF CHILDREN WITH A CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE DURING SURGICAL TREATMENT

 Anxiety plays an important role in occurrence of preoperative and postoperative
stress, which makes it important to take into consideration this factor in a patient’s
preparation for surgery. The aim of the study is to identify the emotional status of
hospitalised children with a congenital heart disease and their parents during surgical
treatment, and to reveal its role in the perioperative period. The research methods
include test techniques aimed to determine the emotional status of children and their
parents, projective techniques, clinical interview. As a result, the author of the paper
reveals a correlation between the emotional statuses of a hospitalised child with a
congenital heart disease and his/her parent, and shows the negative role of a child’s
high level of anxiety in the postoperative period.
